Why Livelihood?

Livelihood is a fundamental aspect of a person’s well-being. In rural areas, especially those facing economic challenges, people often struggle to secure sustainable sources of income. This leads to poverty, food insecurity, and lack of access to basic needs like healthcare and education. By focusing on livelihoods, Kashish works to help individuals and families become financially self-sufficient, break the cycle of poverty, and create a foundation for long-term community development.

Key reasons why livelihood is a focus:

  • Economic empowerment: A sustainable livelihood provides financial independence and empowers individuals to make decisions about their own futures.
  • Breaking the poverty cycle: By creating opportunities for income generation, livelihoods can help reduce poverty and improve overall quality of life.
  • Promoting social equity: Access to livelihood opportunities creates economic inclusion, allowing marginalized groups, such as women, youth, and Dalits, to become active contributors to the economy.
  • Building resilience: Having a stable source of income helps communities better withstand economic shocks, natural disasters, and other challenges.

What We Do:

Kashish’s livelihood programs are designed to increase income levels, build skills, and create opportunities for sustainable development. Our approach involves skill development, entrepreneurship, and access to resources to help individuals become financially independent.

  1. Vocational Training and Skill Development:

    • Kashish provides vocational training in various fields such as embroidery, tailoring, food processing, beauty culture, and agriculture. These skills are designed to be marketable and offer practical solutions for individuals to start their own businesses or find employment.
    • We also conduct training programs on agriculture, livestock management, and entrepreneurship to help rural populations, especially women and youth, develop skills that will increase their income and support their families.
  2. Support for Micro-enterprises:

    • We encourage and assist individuals and groups in starting their own small businesses through entrepreneurship development. This includes providing start-up capital, business planning assistance, and training on financial management to ensure sustainability.
    • For instance, we support women’s groups in establishing small enterprises, such as tailoring centers, handicraft businesses, and food production units.
  3. Access to Credit and Financial Services:

    • Kashish works to improve financial inclusion by helping individuals, especially from marginalized communities. We partner with local banks, and SHGs (Self Help Groups) to provide financial services that enable people to invest in their livelihoods.
    • SHGs also act as savings groups, where women pool their savings, which can later be used for income-generating activities.
  4. Agricultural Livelihoods and Support:

    • Many people in rural areas rely on agriculture as their primary source of livelihood. Kashish provides training on sustainable farming practices, organic farming, and agricultural entrepreneurship.
    • We promote rain-fed agriculture through better access to water management, irrigation techniques, and the use of modern farming tools, which can improve crop yield and reduce dependency on weather.
  5. Promoting Rural Youth Employment:

    • We focus on creating employment opportunities for rural youth by offering them vocational training, internships, and linking them to local job markets. We also work with local businesses and industries to ensure that youth have a pathway to stable employment.
    • Programs also focus on entrepreneurship development by providing youth with the tools and support to start their own businesses, particularly in agriculture, crafts, and services.
  6. Women’s Economic Empowerment Through Livelihoods:

    • A core part of our livelihood programs is focused on empowering women. By providing skills training, and business opportunities, Kashish helps women create sustainable sources of income. This not only helps improve the standard of living for women but also empowers them to become more independent, confident, and active members of their families and communities.
    • Women who participate in SHGs and livelihood programs often go on to own businesses, contribute to the household income, and become leaders in their communities.

Our Focus

  • Economic independence for individuals, especially women and youth, through skills development, access to resources, and business support.
  • Sustainable livelihoods that improve overall living standards while ensuring the preservation of the environment and local resources.
  • Entrepreneurship development, helping individuals start small businesses that are financially sustainable and can contribute to community growth.
  • Agricultural livelihoods, improving the productivity and sustainability of farming in rain-fed areas.
